Avoiding Jury selection

Today I’m fulfilling my civic duty by sitting in a room in the Superior Court of Ventura for jury selection. One of the announcers gave us a tip of avoiding the increased likelihood of Jury selection – you can’t avoid service all together (or can you?).

Jury service in California gets their information through DMV and voter registration. (I guess that means if you don’t vote or have a license you could avoid service…) If the information between the two entities matches you’ll be entered into random selection once. If that information doesn’t match EXACTLY you’ll be entered twice. Middle initial on one but not the other? Abbreviated name ( my problem)? Different address? Double entry!

It’s worth checking what’s on file at DMV and voter registration to potentially avoid “more likely” jury service.
