On Saturday December 7th after running (and climbing, wading, walking, crawling, etc.) for 1:26:07 I completed the Malibu Spartan Sprint.
If you’ve never heard of the Spartan Races or Sprints here’s a little info:
Spartan Sprints are muddy 3+ MILES / 15+ OBSTACLES course races. The challenging sprint races are a great way to get off your couch and start living. Beginners to hardcore warriors, and marathon runners alike come out to test themselves on the insane obstacles! This 5k race is comprised of mud runs, obstacles, trail racing, physical challenges and mental challenges all in a 3+ race.
My pace wasn’t meant to be fast, I was focused on completing the race. Sadly I didn’t train much for the race aside from a few 2-mile walk / runs and was pretty sick a few days prior to the race but I was in good enough shape to push through. Perhaps that’s why the rest of my 4 person “team” ran off ahead of me completing the race a few minutes ahead. Who cares, I finished happy!
It was such a fun experience, despite the cold rain and tough conditions that I’ll try to do it again in the years to come and maybe I’ll try a few different venues and challenges as well. Here are some of the photos from after the race:
The Medal, headband and bib from the race. The only thing missing is the T-shirt.
Although it was raining before the race I was still mostly dry and relatively warm. That wasn’t going to last.
