My buddy Ryan and I finished our EFR (Emergency First Response) class on Sunday. It was about 5 hours instead of the anticipated 8 hours, but we learned a lot and on Monday night we started our Rescue Diver class.
EFR teaches you how to perform rescue breathing / CPR, how to analyze an accident situation, what techniques to use with an Adult versus Child patient and how to use a Defibrillator.
The rescue class expands on what we learned in EFR and then teaches you how to deal with certain scenarios like panicked divers on the surface of the water and underneath the water. The many techniques to get people out of the water, when to perform rescue breathing, equipment, etc. Our last classroom class is Monday and I’m looking forward to getting it out of the way. After that we have one pool session and one live open water (ocean) session where we put all our knowledge to use. It’s going to be very fun, I just like know that if someone is in trouble I can help!
